CEGAL’s Booksellers Conference 2022

CLP-junio22

The 25th edition of the Spanish Confederation of Booksellers' Associations and Guilds (CEGAL)’s Bookshop Congress (Congreso de Librerias) will take place in Madrid, Spain, from 23 to 25 June 2022.

Under the theme "A thousand worlds, one universe" the aim of the Congress is to highlight the value and power in the diversity of booksellers, who are united in the face of the shared challenges of our times: strengthening the role of bookshops as cultural agents and local shops, supporting their technological adaptation and respecting their function within the book value chain.

The programme has been designed from a practical and useful point of view, with presentations in the mornings and information sessions in the afternoons that contribute to improving the results of the daily work of booksellers.

The topics of the presentations and training sessions will cover, among others:

  • Recovery and resilience plans: financial support for the book sector
  • Public procurement and tendering process: the role of bookshops
  • The renaissance of retail
  • Qualitative study on bookshops: customer service at the point of sale

More information and how to apply

Through the RISE Bookselling programme, we help booksellers of all kinds to participate in international training and networking opportunities. We enable booksellers, who are members of one of the network organisations, to join their colleagues and participate in a dedicated programme, developed in partnership with the event organisers.

Following a successful application, applicants will be offered a place to participate in selected international sector event. Following the event, participants will have to provide an overview of activities report to the coordinator. They will also be expected to participate in RISE promotional opportunities following the event, which can include, among others, sharing quotes, blog posts and multimedia from the event on RISE website and social media channels, as well as providing feedback on the event.

Through this agreement, the coordinator will cover travel costs for the participants between their home and event location, and accommodation costs for the duration of the programme.

The conference will primarily be held in Spanish, so we encourage applications from booksellers who can understand the language.
