2023 Children's Institute in Milwaukee, WI, USA

Childrens-Institute

The 2023 Children's Institute, hosted by the American Booksellers Association, will take place on
5-7 June 2023.

This annual conference is the second largest bookselling event in the USA and is created to celebrate and support children's bookselling, but is designed to benefit general booksellers as well. The event includes keynote speakers, idea exchanges on best practices, education panels, a book character costume party, a book swap dinner, bookseller karaoke, author events, and more.
Over 350 booksellers will be in attendance along with publishers, vendors, and authors. Milwaukee also has great independent bookstores to visit.
You can consult the full programme here.

A group of international booksellers will be chosen based on applications received before 1 May 2023.

Please note: All Children's Institute attendees must have been vaccinated for Covid-19 and will be asked to provide proof of their initial vaccine upon registration. Boosters are not required.

More information and how to apply

Through the RISE Bookselling programme, we help booksellers of all kinds to participate in international training and networking opportunities. We enable booksellers, who are members of one of the network organisations, to join their colleagues and participate in a dedicated programme, developed in partnership with the event organisers.

Following a successful application, applicants will be offered a place to participate in selected international sector event. Following the event, participants will have to provide an overview of activities report to the coordinator. They will also be expected to participate in RISE promotional opportunities following the event, which can include, among others, sharing quotes, blog posts and multimedia from the event on RISE website and social media channels, as well as providing feedback on the event.

Through this agreement, the coordinator will cover travel costs for the participants between their home and event location, and accommodation costs for the duration of the programme, 4-8 June 2023.
