The sixth edition of the Syndicat de la librairie française’s (SLF) booksellers’ conference, Rencontres nationales de la librairie (RNL), will take place in Angers, France, from 3 to 4 July 2022.

The aim of the RNL is to allow booksellers to meet in an informal setting and exchange views with other professionals in the book trade, authors, publishers, librarians, distributors, and representatives of the public sector. This year, RNL also spotlights booksellers and the book sector in Angers and the Region of Pays de la Loire.

During the two-day programme, the 2022 RNL edition will include research presentations, plenary sessions on the environment and the future of the bookselling profession, and dozens of specialised workshops.

Some of the many topics that will be covered during this year’s edition of the RNL:

  • The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the book trade and bookshops

  • Young readers

  • Improving the distribution system

  • Importance of the backlist management

  • Bookshops on social media and online

  • A look at today’s “new booksellers”: who are they?

  • Increasing concentration of publishing houses

More information and how to apply

Through the RISE Bookselling programme, we help booksellers of all kinds to participate in international training and networking opportunities. We enable booksellers, who are members of one of the network organisations, to join their colleagues and participate in a dedicated programme, developed in partnership with the event organisers.

Following a successful application, applicants will be offered a place to participate in selected international sector event. Following the event, participants will have to provide an overview of activities report to the coordinator. They will also be expected to participate in RISE promotional opportunities following the event, which can include, among others, sharing quotes, blog posts and multimedia from the event on RISE website and social media channels, as well as providing feedback on the event.

Through this agreement, the coordinator will cover travel costs for the participants between their home and event location, and accommodation costs for the duration of the programme.

The conference will be held in French, so we encourage applications from booksellers who can understand the language.
